Sugar and Spice...and butterflies and flowers! That's what little girls are made of!

This kindergarten artist was going to paint a picture for her bedroom!   Mom knew she loved to make flowers, and also wanted to implement a butterfly into the painting so it would coordinate with her room.

This photo of her bedding helped me to come up with a color scheme that would make a beautiful (and coordinating) painting for "M"'s room.  Also, pink and purple are her favorite colors....so those were a
MUST!

For our first meeting, we painted at Tribeca Coffee House.  I had already added the backdrop of a solid aqua/blue so she could start on the fun stuff right away.  Our first plan was the grass.   Well, mine was. "M" was really wondering about the fact that she only saw green and blue paints out.  Hmmmm....This lady wanted some purples and pinks!   No problem!  Grass first, then the fun girl stuff! I promise!

She filled in blue circles for some flower placements and then started painting over my pencil lines for tall grass....

"M" was so outgoing with me!   She was super open and would stop to ask fun questions, and make great observations.   I love a curious kindergartner!

We used 4 shades of greens and kept "making lines" to fill in the painting.  I was loving what I saw!

Next, I painted white on "M"'s thumb and we stamped her thumb for some white flowers.   I caught the end result here.

Now, it was time for the pink!   Lots of pink!  I would trace a flower outline and she would fill it in.

You can see her filling in here....The paint thickness was making some beautiful texture.

Wow!  Already so beautiful!

Next up was dark pink....and "rectangle" flowers.  These were "Line, line line" flowers.  I would have her fill in the paint in lines and 3 to 4 lines would do it!

I LOVE the TEXTURE SO MUCH!

"Look, paint on my shirt!"

Light purple flowers next....

We got the flower bases in and some of the butterfly.   This painting was coming together BEAUTIFULLY!

See you soon sweet "M"!  Cute pose!

Session 2!   It made my day to hear that "M" couldn't wait to paint again.   Honestly, neither could I!  I loved the way this painting was turning out and was excited to finish it up and see the final results!  We started with filling in the butterfly's body.

And then carefully creating those antenaea.  She has such a careful steady hand for a 5 year old!

Filling in the wing colors....

She was so concentrated!  It was so cute!

Next we went over our flowers with another coat of paint.

Then painting in yellow lines on the purple flowers.

Good job "M"!  So careful!

I HAD to take these pictures.  "M" was always super curious to see what color the water would change to when we put her brushes into it.  I had to take a picture of her checking the water to remember that!

Looking good!   Now some blue circles...

Put it in the paint, smush it down, and spin it in a circle!   Perfect!

SUCH A beautiful finished project.  And she is 5!  Wow!

Our photo shoot of artist and painting....

I love this one because it was "M"'s idea.  She really wanted to hold it up.  It also gives a good idea of the size of a large painting!   "M" I hope you love your masterpiece as much as I do!   Great job sweetie!
