Happy Birthday Mom!

For my sister in law's 40th birthday, her kids and I painted her a picture for her living room over this weekend.   It was my first pajama painting session!   The project she chose was perfect for using all 3 of her sweet children.   I think they did a beautiful job with a painting that will be versatile and timeless!

My first artist, was the extremely sweet and smiley "C".   A pre-schooler makes a great textured background.  All "C" needed was a big brush and blobs of paint that would mix well plopped down on that canvas.  Then she was off!

Fill in all the white parts!   WOW!  BIG CANVAS!

Look at that happy painter!

Okay, time to toss the brush!  We added some great texture with messy hands!

 Look at that reach!

You can see the flowers sketched in darkly underneath her paint.

Hard working artist!

Oh my goodness, I know I'm biased because I'm your aunt, but you are ADORABLE!

The "messy hands" picture!  "C" that background looks GREAT!

Next up was my nephew "C".   "C's" interests involve hunting, fishing, and all things BOY.   One of his fave shows is Duck Dynasty and I'm pretty sure it is because he could jump into that family at any time and fit right in, beard or not.   But despite the fact he may not love to paint, he, like the Robertson men, loves his mom, and happily painted for her.    He started by filling in a few of little "C"'s missed spots in the background.

Then, what better for a man of the outdoors than to paint a brown field of grass!

Paint up, up, up!  Let it fly off the canvas!

One spot flew a little higher than planned :)

Step one done "C"!

Next a dark brown with a thinner brush for more depth in the grass.

"And then we're done, right Aunt Jill?"

Half way there buddy! (very concentrated)

And, you did it!!!!!

Now it was time for 10 year sister to do the detailing!  She was pretty excited!

She did more variations of grass with darker shades and smaller brushes.

Happy girl!

WOW!  Looking good "E"!   We worked on the high grass spot, but eventually decided to take it out for the finished painting with some Aunt Jill touch ups.

Now to the stems.  "E" paint-traced my sketches, with a steady hand!

Then I outlined the flowers for her, and she filled them in with multiple shades of reds, burgundy, and oranges for depth.  I let her dip and choose what color to use where, and she did an amazing job!

Here is what she would fill in.

LOVE!!!!!!

Beautiful girl making a beautiful painting!  I still can't believe how fast she is growing!

Those flowers just POP!

Then "E" filled in the middles with some blacks.

And added green to the field.

Just WOW!   I was LOVING IT!

Little sister, wanting in on more of the painting fun!

The final product was fabulous!  Another one I was sad to let leave my home!  But I know their mom will cherish it and I am glad it's still in the family!   Great work my little artists!  Love you all!
