Seahorse!

Almost 6 year old "R" was sure about a sea horse painting!  She had learned about them in Pre-K and couldn't wait to make her own, complete with sea weed and ocean water!  I loved her bright color choices and her careful painting!   Wonderful job "R"!

Session 1:  We started with a solid blue/green for the water.  We worked around my pencil sketch of the seahorse.  I could tell that she was a careful artist!

Next, "R" used a sponge and lighter colors to put in a watery, bubble affect.

Now "R" got to the fun stuff of picking out colors for her seahorse.  Pink was top of the list!

Then a blue belly! Finally we added some purple lines and then called it a day!

Love what I see so far "R"!

Session 2 was so fun!  First "R" put in her seaweed with greens.  Then she chose out some fun colors for the finishing touches on her sea horse.

Working while brother "R" finishes his lion....

Now the eye went in and then she ever so carefully traced her seahorse with purple.   Amazing steady hand!

And then, after using a sharpie to trace around the eyes (and add lashes of course!) "R's" under the sea painting was complete!   So beautiful!   I love it!

Lion

7 year old "R" loves animals, so this lion close up was perfect for his room, (which may be decorated in camo!)  For 7, I was super impressed with the control he had with a paint brush.  Truly amazing!  Plus, what a cool painting for a camo room!

Session 1:  I had penciled in the lion's face before we met, so we had a good guide for painting.   To start, I painted in the lines for the face and he EVER SO CAREFULLY filled them in.

I showed him a few spots to do some shadowing as well....Then onto the next parts of detailing.  So impressive!

Dotting in the whiskers (to the left) and filling in the black outline.

Finally we got the lion's beard (is that what it is called?)  Some Tribeca customers actually came in to admire his work!  They were so impressed by his blending.
Finally, we added in the eyes and called it a day!  "R" was feeling good about his lion so far.  I was super impressed as well!

Session 2:   Today was all about the mane!   First we used some dark brown and we worked on lots of blending.   I had some pencil marks to give an idea of what direction he should go for paint strokes.  He also had his choice of various colors to mix with.  Then he was off, to fill in the canvas with an amazing mane!

"R" and I both really liked the brown orange color!  So awesome!

Um, wow!  "R" is adding in some final "waves" to the mane here, and blending in some more brown as well.

Great work "R"!   I love your lion!

Flowers and a Butterfly

This soon to be kindergartner loves nature!  She just raised her own butterflies, so it was no surprise that the painting she chose to do for her room was one full of flowers and a butterfly.  I love the bright colors she chose.  She wanted a "rainbow" garden.   I think her bright and happy painting is a perfect reflection of this little one's personality!

For her first sesson, "T" painted a colorful sky and the green backdrop.   It was a short session for her today!

And a bit messy!

Clouds and grass in!

And complete for the day!  Great job happy girl!

Meeting 2 was a little longer, but so much fun!  "T" loved picking out colors for her flowers and butterfly, and also had some fun ideas at the end for friendly bugs.   I had added a layer of white paint so we didn't have trouble with the background showing through.  Also, it provided a good guideline for this 5 year old.  First, she started with the green stems.  She asked that I do some tracing for her, mostly because this part was a little boring I think!  ha ha!

Once the greens were complete, we used a wooden circle to stamp in her purple and blue flowers.  Then we moved flower by flower, color by color and slowly built up her painting.  She was certain about a "rainbow garden" and I think her choice was lovely!  Here is the process.....

Our final details were some painting around the edges of the flowers and the butterfly....

And then, we added ants!  Such a cute idea!  She painted the bodies and then, when they dried, she used a fine point sharpie to add legs and antennae.

CUTE!  See her curly caterpillar too?  Adorable!

What a fun adventure to paint with you "T"!  I loved ALL your ideas and creativity!   Enjoy your beautiful garden painting!
