Lion

7 year old "R" loves animals, so this lion close up was perfect for his room, (which may be decorated in camo!)  For 7, I was super impressed with the control he had with a paint brush.  Truly amazing!  Plus, what a cool painting for a camo room!

Session 1:  I had penciled in the lion's face before we met, so we had a good guide for painting.   To start, I painted in the lines for the face and he EVER SO CAREFULLY filled them in.

I showed him a few spots to do some shadowing as well....Then onto the next parts of detailing.  So impressive!

Dotting in the whiskers (to the left) and filling in the black outline.

Finally we got the lion's beard (is that what it is called?)  Some Tribeca customers actually came in to admire his work!  They were so impressed by his blending.
Finally, we added in the eyes and called it a day!  "R" was feeling good about his lion so far.  I was super impressed as well!

Session 2:   Today was all about the mane!   First we used some dark brown and we worked on lots of blending.   I had some pencil marks to give an idea of what direction he should go for paint strokes.  He also had his choice of various colors to mix with.  Then he was off, to fill in the canvas with an amazing mane!

"R" and I both really liked the brown orange color!  So awesome!

Um, wow!  "R" is adding in some final "waves" to the mane here, and blending in some more brown as well.

Great work "R"!   I love your lion!
