This second grade beauty was asked by mom to create a beautiful field of flowers for her living room! Her canvas was 2 by 3 feet in size, so we had lots of space to work with. So much in fact, that after painting the backdrop during this first session, the poor girl told me her arms were tired! I believed her! She had lots to paint! But what an amazing project!
For this backdrop, we were creating a colorful field for the flowers we would later add. Mom has a red accent wall in her living room, so the colors of this painting would really add to the room and
pop next to the wall. I had mom bring her paint can to match up the reds. I think we got it just right!
Here's the sky..."B" painted in small criss/cross strokes to add some texture.
Happy Painter! She's not tired yet!
Next we added in some clouds with brush dabs.
Another layer of beautiful warm color...
Mixing and blending in......
Let's rest those arms for a little bit!
It looks great so far but we wanted to raise up the fields so that the painting really showcases the flowers...sooo....
Time for Session 2!
I had sketched in the lines for the flower stems, and "Xed" our flower locations. Today we used a slanted brush to make nice, clean stem lines with black and green. "B" simply traced my pencil lines here....
Super concentrated!
Going back through to fill in more stems!
Next, I demonstrated painting the leaves of the stems (you can see my example on one stem)
Then "B" followed my example and filled in the rest.
LOOK AT ALL THOSE STEMS! She was starting to get tired, so I told her I could call her the
"tired artist." She liked the name.
Now we added the flowers. I would paint in one oval, and she would add 1 or 2 more
ovals of similar size for our outlines.
Now we got to her favorite part! I gave her a dark burgundy and lighter red shade and told her to fill in the flowers with either one, however she wanted to. She did a beautiful job!
"B" was so awesome at concentrating during her sessions, but I LOVED how excited she got as the
painting started to really take shape!
Almost done!
Now it was time to add small black lines in the flowers, and yellow middles- the last, small details!
She is the sister of my "It's so beautiful, I'm going to faint!" painting, so she recommended the laying down pose, which was perfect for his sibling! Also, for my exhausted painter!
I posted quite a few pics because they're SO ADORABLE!
