The Twelve Apostles

This mom and dad had taken a trip to the land down under and came back with some pretty extraordinary pictures of the beauty of Australia!   The trip was memorable and special, and mom wanted a painting done by "A" and "B" to remember it.   I love the idea of taking an image of a great memory, and having transforming it into a painting done by your precious children.  Talk about priceless!

This is the picture mom took that inspired our art work!
For our first meeting, "A" started out with painting in the base colors of the sketch.

I love how she would half- sit and half stand while painting!  So cute!

Next, the sky!

And the ocean...

Here she was pausing to chat a little bit.  She had so many fun stories!   Swimming, drop offs, and fun memories with her family.   You can tell how much she loves her family
by the way she talks about them!  So cute!

Swirly clouds!

More sea.... and a couple rocks.....

And WA- LA!  Look at this natural poser!  Adorable!

Next up was 5th grader, "B".   He had a lot of detailing to do!  We started with the sea....

It helped to have the picture image as I would refer to it while working with him- for looking at colors, textures, etc.

Adding in shadowing....

The dimension of the sea was coming along beautifully!

I had outlined the various rock formations to fill in...

We got a few done, but decided to wrap up....it was a  lot of work, but "B" was such a positive and easy student to work with.    And so much fun to talk to!   Mom, you have such nice kids!

Session 1 is a wrap!

Session 2:

Before we began our second session, I added some sketching to help guide "B".  Today involved lots of mixing and blending.

Adding in the lighter greys...

Tops of the mountains.....

We bounced all over, filling in colors....

A light outline....

And coming to our final rock!

SERIOUSLY IMPRESSIVE for a 1st grader and 5th grader!    Just. WOW!

Finished project photo shoot!   These kids are so cute!

And their painting is amazing.   Mom, something to treasure forever!  Thanks for all your hard work
"B" and "A"!   You were both a joy to paint with!
