The Magical Horse

6 year old "E" is heading into 1st grade.   She loves horses so I helped her along with this magical beauty!  What a careful painter she was!   Such a beautiful result!

After sketching in the horse, I used painters tape to mark it off so "E" could put in a background and paint the horse in one session.   Here "E" is using careful horizontal brush strokes to paint in a colorful sky to start.

Now she is finishing up the greens...boy that painter's tape comes in handy!  It was fun to peel it back to reveal the horse sketch she would be painting next!

"E" chose purple for the mane.  We talked about the direction for the lines for painting in a mane blowing in the wind.   Perfectly done!   When it came to the tail, "E" wanted to add more color to the horse, so we continued working with long brush strokes, but added more color.   Then taking blacks and browns, she used a detail brush to put in the face and hooves.

Her final step was to add colorful details on the horse's body and and blend them with white.  This was the trickiest part, but the results paid off!
How fun to hang this up in your room "E"!   Thanks for a fun afternoon!   I love your painting!
