Little "M" is going into 2nd grade and I have known her since she was a pre-ker. This little girl is full of life! Super fun to paint with! She had an enormous painting here to create a background for. I had her use sponges for most of it, which allowed for the marbled look that was achieved. I would pour on the paint, and she would blob..and blob. and blob!
First colors in!
Now we added some of moms favorite colors, and more interest with these yellows and browns.
Finally, she overlapped the dark brown to complete the backdrop!
Next up was big sister "K", coming in to add poppies. We were basing this painting of a modern art painting that mom found on-line. I had penciled in the poppies and stems so she knew where to paint. So much of a good painting is use of space on a canvas. Here "K" is adding the darker background stems with a very steady hand!
Then we were off to the fun stuff! The poppies! I taught "K" how to use a mix of reds and oranges for the poppies and then she filled in, playing with her color options.
You can see our inspiration image below. I helped with painting an outline for her....and we used black for more drama with the flowers as well.
So Beautiful!
Here are the artists posing with the finished work!
Now their work was done! Mom wanted this picture in the kitchen and chose out the hymn
"How Great Thou Art" to be painted on the piece before she framed it. So the final product is below. I love it and think they will too!
