10 point buck

Despite the fact I grew up an Iowa girl with hunters in my family, I realize I am NOT an expert of  knowledge regarding 10 point bucks.   Thankfully, 10 year old "B" helped me out in his vast knowledge of the animal as he and his brother worked on a fall scene with the beautiful deer as the focal point.   This painting was a surprise present for dad's birthday.  Another great painting from these two!

Our landscape artist "M" arrived first to create the enviroment for our amazing deer.   Here he is following my pencil marks to create the tree trunks, and then adding in the dirt path.

Now he is filling in the darker paint (you can see my outlines) and blending to create a shadow effect on the path.

Next "M" put in the base colors for the sky and foliage.

Then I introduced him to the fan brush!  Time to put in those leaves!
Then he outlined a couple trees again as a finishing touch.

And WA LA!   Session 1 complete!

Session 2:

Before I worked with big bro "B", I sketched in the 10 pointer!   It was fun to work with "B" on this part because he knows a deer so well.   My vocab grew today for sure!  Now I can spot a drop horn.  Thanks "B"!

Getting started....these pictures show the process of building up the deer with varying colors, shades and blending.   Very careful work here!

Now we blended, and highlighted.

"B" put in the drop horn and highlighted the antlers so they popped against the background.

And we called it a wrap!  Pretty nice job for two young artists!  I bet dad will love it!
