Northwoods Chocolate Lab

Happy for me, these two, fun brothers were back for their other Grandma's Christmas gift.   This time, instead of a cat, we would be making a chocolate lab, and a northwoods scene.

First up was 6 year old "M"!   Last time he painted grass and a sky, but this time, he would have a more challenging backdrop!   He was totally up for the challenge, and I was so happy with what he created!  First we put in a sky, and then made a reflection of it in the water.  I had pencil in to guide where colors would be placed.

I had him add a beautiful gray to the water and blend, and then painted a line for him to add in the grass.  He is filling it in below.

Almost done! Don't forget those sides!

Now our most challenging part.  I made dot to dot lines for him to follow across.  This would be the reflection line for the trees in the water.

And now added blots of paint to my straight lines to fill in the trees.

I followed behind him with a dry brush to blend the paint and spread it...you see the result below.

The reflections.....

And some more blending in the water.  WOW!

"M"!  You did SO WELL!  I'm so proud of you!  Look at that gorgeous image!

Next up was the foreground artist, "B"!   His first step was filling in foliage for the trees....

Then he filled in the tree trunks and added bark with grays for some more dimension.

He wants to get paints for Christmas now!   So fun to hear!   I'm glad he loves to paint as much as I do!

Next he filled in the lab....small detail work here...

The red collar is for Grandma's dog!

Final touches....

Putting in the face...it is dark and harder for him to detail, so although the
photos don't show the face as well, it is there!

Great work sweet boys!   I can't wait to hear what Grandma thinks!  So proud of you both!
